Erdogan opens subway line without driver in Istanbul

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan opened on Sunday the second phase of the subway without driver in the Asian part of Istanbul.

Erdogan said at the opening ceremony that the delay of the opening was because of the finding of archaeological sites during the construction work, and the passage of tunnels from a densely populated area.

Erdogan pointed out that they will open at the end of this year the railway line between the areas of “Gbaza” and old “Halkhali”, after rehabilitation, which is 63 kilometers long.

They are continuing to work on other railway projects at the present time; they are 355 kilometers long and are expected to be completed by 2019.

He stressed that the goal is to increase the length of the railway lines eventually to a thousand kilometers through the implementation of new projects.
