Turkish Transport, Communications and Maritime Transport Minister Ahmad Arslan said 85 percent of Istanbul’s third airport project had been completed and the rest would be completed on time.
The Turkish minister pointed to the publication of some media news that “a funding crisis facing the project of the largest airport in the world.”
He pointed out that the project is being built in cooperation between the public and private sectors, and in accordance with the system of “construction, operation and transfer of ownership”.
In a statement to Anadol, the Turkish minister denied what was published in some media about “a funding crisis facing the project of the largest airport in the world,” stressing that there is no delay in the period specified for the completion of the project.
He stressed that the construction works are continuing without interruption in accordance with the work program approved by the Contractors’ Union, which is responsible for completing the project.
The project was being built in cooperation between the public and private sectors and in accordance with the “Construction, Operation and Transfer” system.
The new airport will provide 100,000 jobs when completed, and the airport’s employment is expected to reach 225,000 by 2025, contributing 4.9 percent of the country’s gross domestic product.
The airport, which will be the largest airport in the world, will play an important role in achieving Turkey’s economic goals of entering the list of the top 10 economies in the world by 2023.
